Maintenance Notification for 11th November, 2010

Description:
Outage of BR1 (br1.heron.bytel.net.uk/80.76.200.189) to perform processor and software upgrade.
 
When:
Starting 22:00 on Thursday 11th November, 2010.
 
Duration:
Approx 1 hour.
 
Procedure:
All BGP peering sessions will be shut down and left for 10 minutes for residual traffic to transfer to BR0. The router will then be shut down, upgraded with the new processor and software (approx 10-15 mins), and then brought back online still in a 'peering shutdown' state. The router will be tested (approx 15-20 mins), and then brought back into service by re-enabling peering sessions.
 
Impact Expected:
Negligible. All customers with BGP sessions should have two sessions configured to both BR0 and BR1.

This is to advise that due to a damaged antenna sector on the Airport Road West wireless mast, we will be bringing the mast down tomorrow evening for 1-2 hours in order to fit a replacement antenna. This is also weather permitting; if the wind remains high this will be put off until Friday evening.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this outage.

[closed] Yahoo/BT Email Problems

Unfortuantely due to a customer leaving their mail server as an open relay, and set to relay through our mail platform instead of sending directly, and a spammer subsequently using it over the weekend to send several thousand emails to yahoo.com; our servers are currently being blocked by Yahoo!.

We have cleaned up the mess and sent requests to Yahoo! to have the block lifted, but they are extremely slow to respond and so far keep asking us repeatidly for the same details over and over.

Emails to yahoo.com, yahoo.co.uk and BT Internet are currently being queued on our outgoing server and will stay there for several days. Please bare with us.

Update @ 8.42 - 3/3/2010 :: Yahoo! have removed the block and email is now flowing freely once more.

Emergency Datacentre Outage Notification

We need to perform necessary upgrade of the software on the core router of the datacentre (known as cr0.heron.bytel.net.uk) in quick order, and so there will be a 5-10 minute outage of all collocated servers in Heron Road and a partial outage of our BT broadband platform at midnight tomorrow (4th Feb). Leased lines and our Middletown and Arcc broadband platforms will be unaffected.

[closed] Broadband Issues

BT (who provide us with access to their broadband network) are having major issues at the moment, involving equipment in Edinburgh. We've also heard that they were doing some sort of major maintenance last night without notifying ISPs such as ourselves properly, which may or may not be linked together.

As such, some lines are not working correctly at present and this is estimated to be fixed at 9.34am.

Leased line services in the Omagh area are currently down due to either equipment or fibre failure. Engineers are being dispatched.

Update @ 15.12 :: This appears to be due to a fibre cut between Armagh and Omagh. Engineers are on their way to determine the exact location and begin repairs.

Update @ 20.45 :: Fibre beak has been found and spliced. Service has returned to normal.
